Child-Care Easy Ideas

Under the Stars

My husband and I have not done a great job in the past of making/taking time to be together for quiet dates. We got into a habit of going to dinner and a movie whenever we got the rare opportunity. (It can be hard to find a sitter for three young children sometimes.) We both realized that in order to have a healthy realationship we need to do a better job of making time for us a priority. One Saturday night last month when we could'nt get a sitter. I decided to create a romantic getaway for us at home. (It's part of my sieze the day mentality.) I put lots of blankets and some candles on our outdoor porch which is off the master bedroom. I brought the c.d. player out to provide some relaxing background music. My husband was delighted with the idea and we had a great time snuggling, talking, etc. under the blankets. It turned out to be one of our most memorable dates. We both learned a valuable lesson from it too. Which was... The more we put into our time together, the more we will get out of it. And it doesn't have to cost a fortune!

Dr. Mike's note:  Karen and I have done similar using the baby monitor to increase our comfort with the kids sleeping inside the house.
