Therapy Interns (2017-2018)

Building Intimate Marriages, Inc. is excited to introduce our 12th generation of student therapy interns. Student interns expand the services Building Intimate Marriages offers potential clients in important ways. Perhaps the most valuable benefit clients receive is increased attention at a lower cost. For example, couples who meet with an intern receive the benefit of therapy with that intern, however, their case is also closely monitored by Dr. Sytsma and other licensed professionals with decades of experience in the counseling profession. In addition, the cost of therapy with an intern is about 30% less than the cost of meeting with a senior therapist. Building Intimate Marriages chooses interns carefully. Every intern is currently completing their final year of training prior to licensure and have gained the approval of seasoned professional therapists to begin seeing clients, including Building Intimate Marriages’ Board of Directors. We are so proud of our interns. Please call our main number, (770) 822-4505, and press "1" to schedule an appointment with one of our interns.

Amanda Hindson

Amanda has always been drawn to change and transformation, and believes that life can be both incredibly beautiful and tremendously difficult.  We live in the space of “already but not yet,” as we long for healing and redemption but find ourselves in broken places.  Amanda believes that some of our greatest discoveries and healing are borne from a place of conflict or pain, and that some of our most profound strength and resilience come out of challenging seasons and relationships.  No stranger to suffering herself, Amanda feels it is a privilege to journey alongside others who are seeking wholeness.  When it comes to the pursuit of healing and transformation, Amanda holds fast to the promises of Emmanuel – God With Us – and looks forward to working with individuals, couples, and families.

Amanda is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Richmont Graduate University.  Prior to attending Richmont, she received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology from Liberty University.  Prior to entering the field of counseling, Amanda worked with her husband as a small business owner in the leadership event industry.  She provided event management, creative direction, and consulting services for clients ranging from intimate gatherings of 30 to large conferences of over 13,000.

Amanda and her husband, Jon, have been married for eleven years, and are the parents of two wonderfully wild little boys.  She enjoys reading, cooking and eating delicious food, traveling, cultural exploration, playing outside with her young boys, and generally enjoying the good things in life.

Micah Mabe

Micah is pursuing a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, along with specializations in Trauma Counseling and Sex Therapy, from Richmont Graduate University. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies with a concentration in Missions and a minor in Youth Ministry from Covenant College. He is also a student member of the Christian Association of Psychological Studies (CAPS), the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and the American Counseling Association (ACA).

Micah believes we are all interwoven through relationships, experiences, and emotions, and that each of these aspects shapes our lives in unique and profound ways. Through our unique differences is where one discovers how God has equipped each of us with certain skills and abilities for a purpose to be appreciated and developed. Micah’s hope is to come alongside those who are suffering and desire healing. Particularly, he feels passionate to walk alongside men who are struggling with their true identity and facing pain related to trauma and sexual struggles. Micah desires to provide an opportunity for people to discover their identity in Christ and find redemption in who they are.

In Micah’s free time, he loves spending time outdoors, working out, going on one of life’s adventures, trying different ethnic foods, traveling, and sharing life with friends and family.
