Sexual Language in Marriage

Research has shown an increase in sexual satisfaction, relationship satisfaction, and couple closeness for couples who talk more openly about sex — especially their sexual preferences. Most couples rely on nonverbal communication which can be problematic.

One way to increase your comfort, and expand your options in talking about sex is to talk about talking about sex. This exercise is designed to help couples walk through an exercise all my sex therapy students must do a form of.

Begin by printing the PDF on this page (or importing it into your favorite PDF app). You will begin this exercise by filling it out individually. Once you have completed your part, schedule a working date to discuss it as a couple.

Remember to remain curious about your spouse. Ridicule, shaming, or otherwise invalidating them, their experiences, or their opinion will not draw you closer.

Let me know what you think when you are done. Would love your feedback.
