Building Intimate Marriages, Inc. is a non-profit charity.
We have been in full-time ministry most of our 10+ year marriage. We have adopted one baby, and birthed three in 4 years. We found ourselves in a very difficult place with our marriage tooking a big hit.
Dr. Sytsma was recommended to us by several friends and we knew we needed help. Over the time we’ve seen him, our marriage has been helped so much! He has walked with us through some low times and really helped us see some truth. He has helped us learn how to communicate in a much healthier way and our marriage has been incredibly impacted.
While critical to our family and ministry, we wouldn’t have been able to afford this therapy without the scholarship fund. We are so thankful for the help we needed financially!
Thank you for your generosity. Know it helps protect our family and ministry.
My husband and I are so grateful to be recipients of the Building Intimate Marriages scholarship. Without it, therapy wouldn’t be possible for us.
We are the parents of two young children, one of whom is special needs. It has been of vital importance that we seek therapeutic support and expertise in the area of our marriage, as we found it far too easy to put all of our energies and focus into the needs of our children.
Our resources are stretched thin due to the significant medical costs of caring for a special needs child. I also bring a history of childhood trauma to the table, which requires more frequent therapy sessions.
Dr Sytsma has offered a safe place to talk about my healing while helping me to become a safe and healthy spouse and parent. It is my deepest desire for the brokenness of my past to stop here. I am so very grateful for the scholarship so that I can continue the work of that goal. Please know that my family reflects the character of gratitude and grace because of your generosity.
While we are a non-profit charity in the State of Georgia, we believe general operating expenses and salaries should be paid by receipts for the services we provide.
We use Give Lively to manage our donations. You can give a one time gift or set up monthly donations. Money donated to BIM goes to two specific purposes.
Our scholarship fund – Our scholarship fund allows many pastors, worship leaders, and other clients access to counseling at an affordable rate. We typically scholarship about $10,000 worth of counseling each year. We’d love to have you contribute to making counseling more affordable to those who need it.
Our “Special Projects” fund. This is for special projects we take on to provide care. Past projects have included a video course, Marriage on Purpose, BEFORE, and Sexualis Veritas. Contact Dr. Sytsma if you would like to schedule a discussion to learn more about the current project.
Being a good steward of the resources God has entrusted us with means often asking specific questions. We invite you to ask whatever you need to know to feel confident in donating to BIM. Here are answers to some commonly asked questions.

No. You can specifically request that your funds go to our general operating expenses, but not to salaries. We offer valuable services, and the groups and individuals who access those services pay for them. We use these service fees to pay salaries and general operating expenses, just like any other successful business would. We believe this is important. Your donations help those who need specific assistance or help us fund new services that wouldn’t happen without your support. Let us know if you need additional specifics.
The clinical staff and our Board of Directors make this decision.
Priority goes to full-time ministry leaders (Pastors, Worship Leaders, Missionaries, etc.). We believe that if we can help our leaders, we can have an exponential impact on our communities.
Next, we support those who have been active in pursuing counseling, but circumstances changed (i.e., loss of job), and we are unwilling to let counseling stall due to finances.
Third, we will often assist those who are being assisted by others. If a church is underwriting a portion of the counseling, we will often match part of the church’s contribution.
Finally, we assist those for whom we believe the circumstances specifically warrant it. Typically, this is someone whose case requires a level of care they cannot afford and we believe contributing will make a significant difference.
No. Unless stipulated for a project, gifts go to the general scholarship fund and may be used for anyone. If you would like to pay for someone else’s counseling, please contact us about third-party payor guidelines.
