Ronald Sytsma was more than a supporter of Building Intimate Marriages —he was part of its heart.

As his son, his vision and values shaped the core of who I am and the ministry I founded, Building Intimate Marriages. I grew up observing and feeling his deep pastoral care for people. He would regularly drop everything to show up for those in need, both in and outside the church. His passion for missions, his love for teaching, and his sacrificial generosity weren’t just things he preached—they were how he lived.

Today, Building Intimate Marriages reflects those same values. We come alongside couples and individuals with Christ-centered counseling, we train leaders in churches and seminaries, and—most recently—we’ve begun expanding our work internationally, a development my father was very proud of.

When he died, I was honored to learn that he had chosen Building Intimate Marriages as a recipient for memorial gifts. This page is an outflow of that choice—a way to continue honoring his life and legacy.

How your gift will be used

To reflect the values my father lived by, memorial contributions will be directed to:

International Missions: In the last year, BIM has spent over $10,000 to reach into new mission areas. We have been very encouraged by the testimonies that have come from this work and plan to continue in the next couple of years as funds are donated.
Pastoral Scholarships: From the beginning, we’ve offered counseling to pastors, missionaries, and church staff regardless of their ability to pay. Memorial gifts will help us continue supporting them with the same generous spirit my father modeled.
General Scholarship Fund: Reflecting his deep care for people, remaining funds will go toward scholarships for single mothers, struggling families, and individuals who are eager to grow but lack financial resources. Each year, we give away $15,000–$20,000 in scholarship-supported assistance.

Recognition

After giving, you’ll receive a receipt for your donation that can be used in preparing your taxes. You will be able to attach a note to the family or mark your gift as anonymous if you prefer.

Being a good steward of the resources God has entrusted us with means often asking specific questions. We invite you to ask whatever you need to know to feel confident in donating to BIM. Here are answers to some commonly asked questions.

About our fundraising

While we are a non-profit charity in the State of Georgia, we believe general operating expenses and salaries should be paid by receipts for the services we provide.

We use GiveButter to manage our donations. You can give a one-time gift or set up monthly donations. Money donated to BIM goes to two specific purposes – special projects or our scholarship fund.

So, do my contributions go to general operating expenses or salaries?

No. You can specifically request that your funds go to our general operating expenses, but not to salaries. We offer valuable services, and the groups and individuals who access those services pay for them. We use these service fees to pay salaries and general operating expenses, just like any other successful business would. We believe this is important. Your donations help those who need specific assistance or help us fund new services that wouldn’t happen without your support. Let us know if you need additional specifics.

Are my gifts tax deductible?

Building Intimate Marriages, Inc. is registered as a 501(c)(3) corporation, meaning the IRS recognizes us as a non-profit charity. We are also registered as a charity in the State of Georgia. This means contributions to Building Intimate Marriages, Inc. count as tax-deductible donations, similar to giving to any other charity or church. (Please contact your tax advisor for specifics on how this might impact your situation.) If not provided upon receipt, you will receive a letter in January identifying your donations, which you can use when preparing your taxes.
